Biography

A native of Phoenix, AZ, Jeremy Ulm is a musician, teacher and freelancer currently based in Kansas City, Missouri.

As an orchestral musician, Jeremy was appointed as acting principal horn of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra for the 2024-25 season. He has also appeared as guest principal with The Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony, and William Baker Festival Singers Orchestra. He has performed with groups such as the Kansas City Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Omaha Symphony, South Dakota Symphony, Sioux City Symphony, Springfield Symphony (MO) and St. Louis Ballet. During his summers, Jeremy most recently performed with the Sunflower Music Festival and Ad Astra Music Festivals in 2023. He attended Brevard Music Festival in 2022, was a Fellow of the National Repertory Orchestra in 2021, and has additionally attended Marrowstone Music Festival (2018-19), Rafael Mendez Brass Institute (2018-19) and was an Orchestral Scholar at Interlochen Arts Camp (2016).

As a chamber musician, Jeremy has been a part of numerous chamber ensembles and has performed many standards of the brass and woodwind quintet repertoire. He is the horn player in Plaza Winds, the fellowship woodwind quintet of the UMKC Conservatory. Their activities for the 2024-25 season will include performing on Kansas Public Radio, playing lobby music at the Kauffman Center, numerous library and community concerts and two full recitals. Jeremy is also a founding member of the State-Line Horn Duo with Brianna Volkmann. Jeremy has performed as a substitute with the Kansas Brass Quintet and Arizona State University Faculty Wind Quintet. Jeremy was a student artist with the Cactus Chamber Musicians in Phoenix, AZ, where he performed repertoire such as Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and Till Eulenspiegel einmal anders, among others.

Jeremy is currently a doctoral student at the University of Missouri, Kansas City where he hold the Plaza Winds quintet fellowship. Previously, Jeremy was a graduate teaching assistant at The University of Kansas. Prior to KU, Jeremy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University in 2020, with a degree in Music Performance. His primary teachers include Professor Alberto Suarez, Dr. Paul Stevens, Dr. Kelly Misko, Dr. John Ericson and Gabriel Kovach.

Outside of music, Jeremy loves hiking and anything outdoors, particularly exploring the amazing states of Arizona, Kansas and Missouri! He also enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with the wonderful friends and family in his life.
