University of Virginia Horn Studio

Welcome to the UVA horn studio! The University of Virginia is a wonderful place to study music, and the program offers great flexibility for students interested in double majoring, getting a minor, or just participating in music for fun.

Horn lessons are weekly 30- or 60-minute meetings at historic Old Cabell Hall at UVA. There are scholarships available either through the music department or the Charlottesville Symphony which can offset the cost of lessons. We will work on fundamentals, etudes, excerpts and solos tailored to your individual goals in music. Whatever your goals are, from playing for fun to taking auditions, performing with orchestras and pursuing a career in music, I will adjust my approach to get you where you want to go.

No matter what your interest is, I’m happy to be a resource for you as you navigate school applications and auditions. I will give any students interested in UVA a free lesson, either in person or over zoom. Please reach out via email at psv4ht@virginia.edu if you have any questions!

The UVA Horn Studio just welcomed Helen Wargelin, 2nd horn of the Virginia Symphony and Detroit Symphony, for a masterclass in Fall 2025. Stay tuned for our next horn guest!
